How do I refer a child to Hillcrest?
The best way to make a referral is to contact our admissions coordinator at 812.428.0698. In the event that the admissions coordinator is unavailable, you will be put you in contact with a treatment team member who can assist you.
Why are children placed at Hillcrest?
Children could be placed at Hillcrest for various reasons. Some are placed because of behavior issues, and others are placed because of family issues and what may have happened to the child. The three major reasons for placement are incorrigibility/truancy, family disruption, and homeless/neglect. Children may also be placed due to alleged physical and sexual abuse, a history of running away and the need to step down from a more restrictive placement.
Is Hillcrest open to males and females? What ages of children live at the youth home?
Hillcrest serves both males and females on separate living units. Hillcrest is licensed to care for youth ages 6 through 18 years of age. The average age of admission is 14 years old.
Do you take private placements from families?

Who Operates Hillcrest?
Hillcrest is a private not-for-profit corporation. Hillcrest is not a state agency.
Where do children at Hillcrest attend school?
The majority of children attend Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation schools. Depending on individual needs, some residents may attend G.E.D. programming. Hillcrest strives to keep the children in their home school districts, if it is appropriate, in order to reduce the impact of placement, and ease the return to the community.
What is the average length of stay?
Individual length of stay varies significantly with each child. In FY 2008, the average length of stay in the residential program was 79 days. The average length of stay for children in Emergency Shelter is four to five days.
