QPR Training

In 2009, the suicide statistics for Vanderburgh County, Indiana were astounding. The number of suicides reached an all time high of 49 occurring during this year. Unfortunately in 2010 there have been seven more suicides occur in the first half of the year versus in 2009. In an effort to create awareness of suicide prevention, Southwestern Healthcare, Inc. hosts, free to our community, QPR suicide prevention training sessions.

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer - 3 simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.

Being QPR trained will help you learn to recognize the warning signs of suicide, know how to offer hope and know how to get help and save a life.

Also, if your organization, church or small group is interested in hosting this free one-hour course on QPR, our staff can come to your location and conduct the training. Trainings can be scheduled by calling Becky Glines at 812.436.4221.
